Introduction
If your eco-round kit needs a quiet SMG that doesn’t look like a default drop, MP5-SD | Gauss is one of those skins people still name-check years later. It landed March 13, 2019 with the Seeing the Light update and the Prisma Case, sits in the Prisma Collection, and comes from Workshop creator Millenia. Rarity is Covert, finish style Gunsmith, float 0.00–1.00—so every wear tier is fair game, from factory-fresh plates to beat-up steel.
Valve’s one-liner nails the vibe: the body reads like stamped steel segments bolted together. No neon gradient circus—just industrial panel breaks, tight edges, and metal that actually shows on the MP5-SD’s compact receiver and shroud. The community tag 「SpaceGat 2000」 fits: retro sci-fi hardness that stood apart from a lot of other Prism drops.
Where it comes from
Still the straight path: Prisma Case opens (or buying the skin outright). Gauss is in the Covert slot for this SMG and shares the collection’s theme if you’re filling an album.
Inspect before you buy
Gunsmith skins live or die in the 3D inspect—static listings lie.
- Mid-body & handguard: That’s where Millenia’s “segment” story has the most real estate. Spin the model; seams and overlap read better in-game than on a thumbnail.
- Wear: Low float keeps panel edges crisp and contrast readable. Mid floats can look fine for play but watch for muddy greys and soft panel lines on the shroud.
- High float: Battle-Scarred Gauss can turn the industrial read into flat scrap—fine if you want a beater, rough if you paid for the gunsmith fantasy.
MP5-SD sees plenty of casual and ranked eco rounds; Gauss isn’t the rarest name in the category, but the industrial look and nickname keep it from feeling anonymous next to other gunsmith MP5-SDs.
Shop verdict
Worth it if you want a recognizable Prism-era gunsmith piece without chasing meme-tier pricing—especially at Field-Tested / Minimal Wear for daily use. Skip or go cheap if you need max flex on every round; this is personality for silent SMG mains, not a flex cannon. Compare wear tiers on C5GAME and Steam Community Market, then decide whether “clean steel” or “scrappy eco” matches your float budget.
Editor’s aside
Gauss is the skin I send friends to when they say gunsmith “looks samey.” On MP5-SD the canvas is small enough that the blocky steel language doesn’t turn into noise—Millenia kept structure readable. I’d rather take a 0.15-ish FT with sharp mid-panel breaks than overpay for FN and never notice the difference in a smoke. Old Prism collectors call it a quiet补票; new players just want a face for the silenced rush—both are valid. Either way, inspect first, price second.
