Introduction
The Sawed-Off Ripple is the Ascent collection’s industrial-grade option that reads less like a sticker bomb and more like someone actually torched part of the frame. Valve’s angle is “localized charcoal high-temperature quenching” on the Sawed-Off — a restrained riff on the classic brown shotgun look. Quench blotches sit between wood and metal instead of drowning the whole silhouette, so the gun stays readable at range while still rewarding a close inspect.
Release & where it drops
Ripple landed 31 March 2025 with the Spring Forward update and sits in the Ascent line. If you’re timeline-chasing the set, this is your early-2025 anchor: examples at every wear tier should keep showing up in Ascent-related drops and on Steam Community Market, with C5GAME as a practical place to compare listings when you’re filling gaps.
Box / source
There’s no side quest here — Ascent collection only. Same map-drop and resale loop as the rest of the set. For display builders, Ripple is the friendly floor piece: cheap enough to buy multiples for pattern hunting, quiet enough not to fight rarer Ascent skins on a shelf.
Skin traits (what you’re buying)
- Finish: quench / heat-treat styling, Industrial Grade
- Wear: 0.00–0.780822 — factory fresh through heavily worn all exist
- Layout: color lives in chosen zones; stock, barrel, and quench borders give more depth than a flat brown spray without erasing the Sawed-Off’s stubby profile
Inspect & wear — what actually changes
Don’t trust thumbnails. Inspect in-game and note where the quench lands on your seed. Two “same float” copies can weight color blocks differently. Low wear tends to feel sharper — metal vs wood pops. High wear softens edges and lets the wood tone rub through; still on-theme for brown-shotgun fans who want metal detail without a loud graphic.
Shopping verdict
Buy if: you’re completing Ascent on a budget, you like brown Sawed-Offs but want texture, or you enjoy low-stakes pattern rolling at regular-tier prices.
Pass or wait if: you need a flex piece — this is set dressing, not a headline skin. Also skip if you hate seed variance; partial quench lives or dies by pattern placement.
Expert mutterings
Regular rarity is a feature, not an insult — it’s the “try the set before you chase the bangers” tax. Ripple is the skin that looks boring in a screenshot and interesting when you spin it in inspect, which is exactly why I’d grab one clean low-float for the loadout and a couple beaters for the Ascent board. If Spring Forward got you collecting Ascent anyway, Ripple is the sensible brown base layer; upgrade within the same collection only after you’ve decided you like the art direction.
