Introduction
Verdict: Solid pick if you are building a Gamma set or want a Nova that reads “metal + pattern” instead of neon splash. Skip if you need factory-fresh silver edges on a budget—those listings climb fast.
What you are buying
Exo sits in the Gamma Collection as Rare, Patina finish. Valve’s pitch is straightforward: purple pattern as base, silver plate on top—not a saturation contest, but a layered look (purple holding the shadows, silver carrying structure and highlights). Display name: Exo. Shipped with the Gamma Exposure update on 15 June 2016. Workshop credit goes to SHPR; patina fits oxidized metal and depth, which plays nicely against the cooler silver hits.
Drop path: Gamma Case or tagged under Gamma Collection. Rare means you will see it more often than Covert pulls, but it still beats Consumer clutter for loadout and set completion.
Wear: 0.00–0.50 (Factory New through Battle-Scarred). Internal paint: aq_nova_sci_fi, weapon class Nova.
Inspect before you pay
Open Inspect in-game and judge the two-layer story, not a thumbnail:
- Factory New / low float: Do silver plate breaks stay crisp at corners and rails? Purple should frame, not muddy, the metal.
- Minimal Wear: This skin lives or dies on early silver loss. A “cheap MW” that ate the highlights can look flat next to a slightly higher float that kept plate.
- Battle-Scarred: Watch purple wash into the body and silver patchiness—some BS pieces still have readable pattern; many do not.
When you price-compare, bucket 0.0–0.5 separately. Same name, different first impression: usually how much plate survives and how dense the purple reads.
Market notes
Listings move on Steam Market and C5GAME. Gaps widen by wear tier and by how picky buyers are about inspect—budget wear, choose pattern with your eyes; hype floats rarely age well for a Rare Nova.
Editor muttering: Gamma line-up completionists treat Exo as a checkbox—and honestly, for patina fans it earns that slot. I would not chase “lowest float on the planet” unless you live in inspect; I would pay a little extra for MW that still shows silver transitions. If the purple turns ash-gray in inspect, walk away even if the float looks cute on paper.
