Introduction
If you are sorting a 2016 Gamma-era stash, the SCAR-20 Powercore is one of those skins you recognize before you read the name: gunsmith finish, Mythical rarity, green body with yellow trim and a barcode motif baked into the metal. It is not a filler drop from Gamma 2—it reads like a deliberate “spot me in a lineup” design, which matters when you are buying sight-unseen.
What you are actually buying
Powercore shipped on 18 August 2016 with the Double Exposure update and entered the pool alongside the Gamma 2 Case and Gamma 2 Collection. Workshop credit goes to Endrit (workshop/scar_powercore), and the in-game blurb even ends with a wink: Rule 1 - No challenge, no achievement. Cute on paper; in practice you will care more about float.
Wear runs 0.00–1.00, Factory New through Battle-Scarred. The official pitch is clear green plus yellow accents; what you get in hand depends heavily on tier. Barcode lines and thin yellow edges are the first victims of scuffs—do not trust the listing icon.
Inspect checklist (do this before you pay)
- Yellow placement — Follow the handguard, barrel, and receiver lines. Sharp yellow reads “intact gunsmith layout”; missing chunks mean you are paying for nostalgia, not the skin as designed.
- Green fields — Low wear keeps the green saturated. Mid and high wear push gray and chalky white through the main panels; the whole vibe shifts from punchy to weathered.
- Barcode block — Zoom it. If the bars melt together, you are already into “aged industrial” territory. Fine if that is your aesthetic; not fine if you wanted the crisp retail look the description implies.
- Same pattern, different float — On C5GAME or the Steam Community Market, filter by wear band and open a few listings side by side. Two Powercores at similar price can look like different skins.
Shopping verdict
Buy with a float target, not a vague “clean” label. Powercore rewards low-to-mid wear for the full green-yellow story and readable barcode. For play-only SCAR-20 users, a decent Field-Tested with intact yellow edges is often enough; collectors chasing Gamma 2 gunsmith sets should hold out for Minimal Wear or better unless you deliberately want beat-up industrial patina.
Skip impulse buys on Mythical hype alone. It is rarer than bulk blues in the case, but it is still a niche rifle skin—budget should follow how much you will inspect and flex it, not the 2016 release date alone.
Best sourcing: Gamma 2 Case openings if you already farm that box; otherwise secondary on C5GAME or Steam with wear filters and screenshot compare.
Editor's rambling
Endrit’s barcode joke is doing more work than most SCAR skins get in a lifetime, and I mean that kindly—Powercore is a collection piece first, meta pick second. I have passed on “cheap FN” listings because the yellow on the receiver looked nibbled; saved a few bucks, lost zero sleep. If you are building a Gamma 2 shelf, pair it with other green-forward drops from the same case so the mythic slot feels intentional, not random. And yes, flip the description once after unbox—Rule 1 hits different when you paid for a barcode that survived the float gods.
