Introduction

Freehand (am_marked_up_90, rare, anodized multicolored) is one of those knife finishes people name-drop constantly—and for good reason. Black–purple base, crisp metallic symbols, cool and understated. It reads “pattern” without screaming neon, and among Gamma Case drops it is easy to spot once you know the look.

Release & source

Live since 15 June 2016 (Gamma Exposure). Still inspects and trades the same way in CS2. Valve in-house art—no workshop author credit. Box tie-in: Gamma Case. On C5GAME or Steam Market, filter by that case when you hunt listings so you do not mix up similarly named items.

Wear & what you actually see

Float band 0.00–0.48. The anodized multicolor finish catches light on the blade curve—bands shift as you spin the inspect. Symbol edges pop when highlights hit them.

Cap at 0.48 means mid–high wear can still hold the purple-black mood, but symbols and plating soften and fade. Low float = sharper glyphs; budget floats = lottery on whether the pattern stayed readable.

Inspect checklist (do this, not thumbnail shopping)

  • Knife model matters. Symbol placement and negative space differ per blade; a Flip you love may look wrong on a Bayonet.
  • Lighting lies. Purple reads warmer or colder by map and inspect angle—use in-game inspect, not one screenshot.
  • Triple-check: float, full inspect shots, case source, then re-verify on C5GAME or Steam Market before pay.

Shop verdict

Worth buying if you want a clean, cold-toned patterned knife without paying for full painted chaos. Best value sweet spot: low–mid wear when symbols stay legible; skip or haggle when icons blur and you are still paying “clean pattern” money.

Editor aside

Freehand is the polite intro to “I want art on my knife.” It will never flex like a doppler lottery hit, but on the right blade and float it looks expensive in third person. Spend your time in inspect, not on float number alone—0.38 with sharp symbols beats 0.22 that washed out.
