Introduction

If you want a melee skin that reads tactical instead of flex, Boreal Forest is one of the oldest answers in the book. It wraps the blade in muted green and brown blocks—no neon gradients, no gemstone fantasy. Internally it's hy_forest_boreal, finish catalog #77, a knife-wide finish. Plenty of players use it as the baseline when comparing "quiet" camo knives.

Release & pedigree

August 14, 2013 — shipped with The Arms Deal, and among that wave it was one of the finishes that first landed on knives. That matters less as trivia and more as context: camo finishes became a normal part of melee cosmetics early, and Boreal Forest still matches that original art direction today.

Who designed it

Valve in-house — not a Workshop submission. No author lore to chase; you're buying the finish on its own merits.

What you're actually getting

  • Rarity: Common
  • Technique: Hydrographic (water transfer)
  • Look: Straight forest camo panels—utility and concealment vibes, not showroom shine
  • Wear range: 0.06–0.80

Lower wear usually keeps camo edges cleaner. As float climbs, metal shows through and the forest print gets scuffed and washed out—more battle-worn, less crisp woodland. Hydrographic also means pattern seed matters: two listings with the same wear tier can look totally different depending on where green/brown blocks sit on the spine and guard.

Flavor line on the item: The forest can be a dangerous place… it's best not to go alone. Pure mood, zero stats—but it fits a subdued kit.

How to shop it (C5GAME / Steam Market)

  1. Inspect in-game first. Float is a hint, not the whole story.
  2. Check blade face and spine/guard—are the camo chunks you care about still intact?
  3. Scratches dead center on the play-side blade hurt more than edge wear you'll barely notice in matches.
  4. If your rifle skin is already loud, Boreal Forest stays supporting cast; if you want instant recognition, this trades flash for long-term readability.

导购结论

Buy if you want a cheap, evergreen camo knife that won't fight your primary for attention, and you're willing to hunt a good pattern rather than only chasing low float. Skip or swap if you need high contrast or "everyone knows the skin" identity—#77 is built for restraint.

专家碎碎念

Finish 77 is the knife equivalent of a field jacket: boring on paper, surprisingly hard to regret. I've seen players overspend on float while ignoring a ruined play-side panel—don't be that buyer. On C5GAME or Steam, sort by price, inspect five candidates, pick the one whose green blocks survived your personal danger zones. Tactical loadouts age well; hype skins don't always.
