Introduction
Among knife paints, Doppler is still the go-to name for anodized multi-color metal. This guide is Phase 4 specifically. The preview shows Shadow Daggers—the same finish rolls onto every knife model, and curvature changes where highlights land and how bands wrap when you spin it in inspect.
Release snapshot
March 15, 2017, shipped with the Take a trip to the Canals update and entered circulation through the Spectrum Case. That’s when Doppler knives started showing up constantly in unboxings and trade-up chatter.
Who designed it
Credited to Valve—an in-house finish template, not a named Workshop submission.
Specs that affect your wallet
- Item: Knife
- Finish: Doppler Phase 4
- Rarity: Mythical
- Process: Anodized multi-color
- Wear: 0.00–0.08 only
The look is black and silver marble under a glossy “candy coat” layer that punches up reflections. Flavor line: looks can kill—pretty or not, in close range it’s still a knife that wins rounds.
Shop lens: wear, pattern, phase
With a 0.08 cap, listings skew Factory New and a sliver of Minimal Wear; true low-float “battle-scarred” Doppler basically doesn’t exist. Price swings often track how sharp the marble reads and how clean the gloss is, not just the float digit.
Phase 4 has its own personality versus Phase 1–3 or Ruby/Sapphire cousins. Collectors sometimes chase a full phase set per knife; others want one daily driver that pops in their lighting. Neither approach works from a thumbnail—open inspect in-game, rotate the blade, and check under bright and dim light. Watch for concentrated bright zones and continuous bands within the same phase; two Phase 4s can feel like different skins.
Before you pay on C5GAME or the Steam Market, re-type Phase 4 in the listing title and match float to what you saw live. Mixing phases with the same “Doppler” name is the classic expensive typo.
Buying guide verdict
Worth it if you care about a tight wear tier and you’ll inspect until the pattern clicks—Phase 4 rewards picky buyers. Skip or slow down if you’re shopping purely by lowest price tag; blur and muddy bands don’t fix themselves, and returns are painful.
Editor’s aside
Shadow Daggers in the hero shot are honest marketing: Phase 4 on a bayonet or karambit will not mirror this screenshot. Treat the preview as “same recipe, different plate”—your money should follow the exact knife + float + in-game inspect, not the default image.
