Introduction
If your loadout leans desert tan, wood camo, or classic orange-black rifles, Hand Wraps | Snakeskin is one of the easiest gloves to spot in third person without stealing the gun’s spotlight. It landed on 3 December 2020 with Operation Broken Fang, sits in the Ancient hand-wrap tier, and is a straight Valve design—no community artist credit on the card.
Quick spec check
- Type: Hand Wraps (display name: Snakeskin)
- Internal ID:
handwrap_leathery_snakeskin_orange - Float range: 0.06–0.80 (Factory New through Battle-Scarred)
- Vibe: stiff leather straps + scaled snake motif, orange-forward in stash inspect, drop reveal, and first person
What wear actually does
Average price alone is a trap. The same wear tier can look totally different depending on where the scuffs sit.
- Straps and folds: high floats often pick up gray leather and muddy orange; low floats keep the wrap edges crisp.
- Back of hand: this is the money angle—big snake panels either read clean or turn into smeared texture.
- Fingerless zones: saturation drops fast on some rolls; others stay punchy well into mid-float.
Rule of thumb: open 3D inspect and spin to the angles you actually see when holding AK/M4/AWP—not the thumbnail.
Loadout pairing
The orange thread runs start to finish, so it plays nice with sand-themed kits, wooden-pattern skins, and weapons that already use orange accents. In inspect and weapon switch animations it gives you a stable color anchor without turning every screen into a neon billboard.
Shop verdict
Worth buying if you want a Broken Fang-era Ancient wrap with strong identity and you’re willing to hunt a float, not just click the cheapest listing.
- Budget stretch: prioritize listings near ~0.06 if you care about strap edges and snake clarity on the back of the hand.
- Value band: 0.15–0.38 can still look great—page slowly for rolls where the scale pattern stays sharp and the leather hasn’t gone ashy.
- Skip impulse buys when the listing photo hides band scrapes or odd color shifts you only see in full inspect.
Compare Steam Community Market and C5GAME for the same float band, but treat written condition tags as hints. Final call should always be your own inspect.
Editor’s notes
Broken Fang dropped a whole wave of hand wraps; Snakeskin wins on readability—orange reads at range, which matters if you clip highlights or play third-person spectate a lot. I’ve passed on “good float” copies because the snake slab landed on a part of the hand I never see in FP. Conversely, a slightly higher float with scales locked on the dorsal side beat a cheaper FN with dead straps every time. Keep screenshots of inspect angles you like; matching another listing to that roll is faster than re-learning what “0.20” means on this skin.
