Introduction
Among knife finishes, Doppler is a household name—but checkout drama usually starts when someone buys “Doppler” and gets the wrong phase. For the red candy-coat everyone hunts, the internal finish is am_ruby_marbleized, i.e. Ruby. Black and silver metallic paint reads like marble; multicolor anodization throws thin bright bands when you spin the inspect. The blade looks wrapped in gloss—sharp, loud, easy to fall for.
Looks can cost you. Treat Ruby as its own tier inside the Doppler family, not “just another red knife.”
Release
January 8, 2015 — shipped with the Full Spectrum update. Ruby entered the same day. That date explains why older listings, phase confusion, and “same skin, different phase” pricing all show up in trade chat.
Designer & source
Valve official knife finish: multicolor anodization, not a named Workshop author skin. Ruby is the most extreme color branch—always separate it from Phase 1–4, Sapphire, Emerald, and Black Pearl in search filters.
Which case
Tied to the Chroma weapon case era—drops and circulation follow that line. Knife model comes from what you unbox or pick on market; phase is whether the finish is actually Ruby. Hunting “Ruby only”? Filter model + case lineage + phase, not the word “Doppler” alone.
Skin specs
- Category: knife
- Finish: Doppler (Ruby phase)
- Rarity: Legendary
- Technique: Multicolor anodization
- Wear: 0.00 – 0.08
The marble pattern wraps the blade—no sticker seam lines. Because wear stops at 0.08, you mostly see Factory New and Minimal Wear. Tips and edges pick up marks first in MW. Slow inspect rotation shows the “candy shell” best; same phase can still differ slightly by pattern template.
What to inspect
- In-game inspect — marble flow and edge cleanliness before you stare at the screenshot.
- Float — narrow band; a small float gap can mean a big look and price jump.
- Phase — Doppler phases price worlds apart; confirm Ruby on the listing and in inspect.
- Vibe — want one solid red block with strong reflections? Ruby tends to read cleaner and punishes wear harder.
Compare on Steam Community Market or C5GAME using inspect views and wear tier; lock phase first, then haggle.
Shop verdict
Worth it if you want flagship red Doppler and you’ve verified Ruby + float you can live with. Skip or pause if the listing only says “Doppler,” phase is unclear, or MW tip wear bugs you—same family, not same wallet hit.
Expert muttering
I've seen more “wrong phase” regrets than “wrong knife model” on Ruby hunts. The finish is ten years old; hype is evergreen. Spin inspect slowly, screenshot the float, then open C5GAME—not the other way around. Pretty blades don't refund impulse.
