Introduction

Among Falchion finishes, Freehand skips the neon arms race. Black base, purple panels, and a layer of metallic symbol work give the blade shape and light something to do without shouting in every lobby. If you want a Falchion you can run daily and still recognize in inspect, this sits in the “low-key but not generic” lane.

Release & source

Live 21 September 2021, bundled with Operation Riptide. Same drop wave as new cases and skins hitting circulation—Freehand is the Falchion-only paint from that pool. Farm the Operation Riptide Weapon Case or buy the knife outright; after the op, price follows supply, float spread, and how many people still main Falchion.

What you’re buying

  • Official Valve skin—not a Workshop pick; layout and symbol placement match other first-party knives.
  • Multicolor anodized on a Rare knife finish.
  • Float 0.00–0.48—Factory New through Well-Worn show up often; you won’t hit Battle-Scarred ceiling like some skins.
  • In hand: purple reads as layers over dark metal; symbols pick up a soft metallic glint under good lighting, which fits the anodized treatment.

Shop checklist: inspect & wear

Falchion blade face isn’t huge—where the symbols sit and whether wear eats them matters more than on wide playside knives.

  1. Inspect in-game or use C5GAME preview and compare listings at the same wear tier.
  2. FN / MW: best for full black–purple contrast and intact symbol blocks.
  3. FT and up: zoom the spine and usual high-wear spots; your viewmodel angle can hide ugly scuffs until you equip it.
  4. Cross-list Steam Community Market and C5GAME— spreads move with Riptide case cost and how many clean low-float copies are listed.

Verdict

Not the loudest Falchion, but the official symbol motif and restrained purple palette age well. Worth shortlisting if you like mysterious purple tones without rainbow clutter—buy FN/MW with clean symbols, or bargain FT only after a proper inspect.

Editor’s note

I’d pass on “cheap FT” listings where the emblem cluster is half gone—you’re paying for that metal filigree. If two floats look identical, favor the one with symbols centered on the face you actually see when you pull the knife.
