Introduction
Among knife finishes, Doppler is instantly readable in a lobby — and Phase 3 is the branch that leans into black and silver metallic “marble” with a high-gloss, candy-coated top layer. From third person it can read like a slice of dark ore; in first-person inspect, the highlights roll as you tilt the blade. Pretty? Absolutely. Still a knife — don’t let the sparkle override your checklist.
Release & origin
January 8, 2015, with the Full Spectrum update. Finish catalog entry Doppler Phase 3 (420) opened the same day; credit is Valve, not a community workshop skin.
Where it drops
The Chroma case line arrived in that update. Knives are already long odds; Doppler adds random phase on top. Hitting Doppler is only step one — you still need Phase 3 and a template you like.

That 0.08 ceiling is the whole story in secondary markets: you mostly see Factory New and Minimal Wear, and heavy battle-scarred tiers barely exist. Float decimals aren’t trivia — they often split listings and price tiers.
What to inspect (in-game)
- Marble flow across the face and spine — good templates feel continuous; bad ones look like two skins stitched together.
- Black vs silver ratio swings hard within the same phase; two Phase 3 bayonets can feel like different items.
- Wear: traders often treat 0.00 vs 0.01 as different conversations. In MW, watch greying on edges and whether the candy shine goes dull.
- Phase ID: always confirm Phase 3 in listing details. Same name, wrong phase = wrong budget on C5GAME or the Steam Community Market.
Shopping verdict
Buy if you want a Doppler bayonet with a dark, mineral-marble read (not the loud gem tones of other phases) and you’re willing to shop templates, not just “Phase 3.”
Pause if you’re price-matching another phase’s screenshot — Phase 3 vs Phase 2/4 gaps can be brutal for the same knife model.
Budget tip: prioritize inspect screenshots + float + confirmed phase over thumbnail glare. The finish sells reflection; your job is to verify the blade, not the poster.
Expert mutterings
Phase 3 rewards patient browsers: the marble is the product, and the market knows it. I treat sub-0.01 floats like a separate shelf, and I never trust a listing that hides the phase string. Gloss is free in marketing; pattern and wear are what you pay for.
Being fooled by its looks can have serious consequences.
